AMBERIZED INSECT WING COMPOSITION

In their frenzy to escape entrapment in
resin, insects will sometimes manage to disengage themselves by
sacrificing
parts of their bodies, like legs or wings. All that remains in
this specimen of amber of its temporary captive insect are
the wings it left behind. The wing shape and the distinctly preserved
patterns of the wing venation indicates that they
probably belonged to a member of the order Neuroptera, which includes
various predaceous insects like dusty-wings,
antlions, and lacewings. These wings make a particularly beautiful
composition in this amber specimen. Mag~ 20 X
