Aside from identifiable insects, plants, and other fossilized remnants, amber can contain myterious inclusions that defy easy recognition or classification. Below are 3 examples taken from the "X"-files of specimens that so far cannot be conclusively identified. From top to bottom are magnified views of an inclusion resembling a complex shell (snail or similar mollusc?), a club moss (bryophyte?), and a tiny mushroom found in a variety of ambers. Some of these inclusions may be natural objects; others may be artifacts created by the interaction of the amber matrix with physical or chemical factors.
If you think you can identify any of the specimens shown below more acurately, please let me know. Meanwhile I'll just continue to call them UFO's.
